How to Book Your Driving Test

Pass your theory test first

You must have a valid theory test pass certificate before you can book a practical test. Theory certificates are valid for 2 years from your pass date. If your certificate expires before your practical test, your practical booking will be cancelled.

Go to gov.uk/book-driving-test

Sign in to your existing DVSA account or create one. You will need your provisional driving licence number and your National Insurance number to verify your identity.

Search for a test centre

Enter a postcode or town name to find nearby centres. You can book at any centre in England, Scotland or Wales — not just the nearest one. Centres further from city centres often have earlier availability.

Choose a date and time

Select from available slots. Weekday slots (Mon–Fri, standard hours) cost £62. Evening and weekend slots cost £75. Pick the earliest date that works for you, or the date where your readiness will be highest.

Pay and confirm

Pay by debit or credit card. You will receive an email confirmation with your booking reference. Keep this safe — you need it to reschedule, cancel, or access your booking.
