DVSA uses pre-approved routes for each test centre. Here is how they work, how to find them, and the best way to prepare for whatever route you get.
Find Your Test CentreAsk your instructor
Your instructor will have taken many learners through your test centre and knows the likely roads, junctions, and roundabouts. Ask them specifically to practise the test centre area in your final lessons.
Drive the area yourself
Spend time as a passenger — or on practice drives — covering the roads around the test centre. Knowing a junction before you encounter it on test day removes the element of surprise.
Check learner forums
Sites like learnerdriving.com and local Facebook groups often have route descriptions shared by learners who recently passed at your centre. These are not official but can be useful guides.
Focus on technique, not memorisation
The examiner can choose any approved route. Trying to memorise one route is less effective than perfecting your observation, mirror use, and speed management — which applies to every road.
