DVSA Fees Explained
DVSA charges £10 to change your test date — unless you swap instead.
DVSA charges £10 to reschedule a practical driving test if you give at least 3 clear working days notice. If you change with less than 3 working days notice you forfeit the full £62–£75 test fee. The only way to change your date for free is to swap with another learner through TestSwap — a peer-to-peer swap does not involve cancellation so no rescheduling fee applies.
| Situation | Cost |
|---|---|
| Reschedule online — 3+ working days notice | £10 |
| Reschedule by phone — 3+ working days notice | £10 |
| Reschedule with less than 3 working days notice | £62–£75 lost |
| Cancel (3+ days) and rebook later | £10 + £62 new fee |
| Swap via TestSwap (peer-to-peer) | £0 free |
What counts as "3 clear working days"?
DVSA counts working days excluding weekends and bank holidays. The day you request the change does not count. So to change a Monday test for free, you must request by the Wednesday before — not Thursday.
Inside 3 working days — what can I do?
If you're within the 3-day window and don't want to lose your fee, a swap is your only option. TestSwap works until the day before your test (DVSA requires 48 hours minimum to process a swap call).
A peer-to-peer swap works differently from a reschedule. Neither learner cancels their booking. Instead, each person calls DVSA on 0300 200 1122 and uses the other learner's booking reference to transfer the date. Because no cancellation occurs, DVSA does not apply the rescheduling fee.
