Eco-safe driving (also called eco-friendly or fuel-efficient driving) is one of the assessment criteria on the UK driving test. The examiner records whether you demonstrate economical driving habits. Beyond the test, these habits can reduce fuel consumption by 15–25%.

Avoid harsh acceleration — build speed gradually and progressively. Avoid hard braking — anticipate and coast gently to junctions. Every time you brake, you're wasting energy that you spent fuel creating. Look further ahead and you'll naturally brake less — gentle deceleration rather than late hard stops.

Changing gears too high up the rev range
